"The Future of Aerial Robotics" - a technical presentation by Robert C. Michelson
Robert C. Michelson is an American engineer and academic widely known for inventing the Entomopter, a biologically inspired flapping-winged aerial robot, and for having established the International Aerial Robotics Competition. He has received degrees in electrical engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is the author of three U.S. patents and over 87 journal papers, book chapters and reports. Michelson also developed classes in avionics and taught in the School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology until his retirement from the University System of Georgia in 2004. Michelson is the recipient of the 1998 AUVSI Pioneer Award and the 2001 Pirelli Award for the diffusion of scientific culture as well as the first Top Pirelli Prize.
He is currently consulting through Millennial Vision, LLC in the area of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with emphasis on biologically inspired micro and nano air vehicles (MAV/NAV), having previously worked in the areas of stratospheric and high altitude tropospheric unmanned airships, and remote sensing. He was a member of the International Organizing Committee and official rules author for the 1st US-Asian Demonstration and Assessment of Micro Aerial Vehicle and Unmanned Ground Vehicle Technology (MAV-08) as adjunct to the U.S. Army RDECOM-Pacific and Indian Ministry of Defense. More recently, he was selected to be one of two international referees (one from the USA and one from Russia) for the UAV Grand Prix held in Beijing China this past September.
Mr. Michelson will be speaking to our group about his current work with UAV Competitions and providing us with a look ahead at the future of aerial robotics.

We always appreciate any members volunteering to allow our SME chapter to tour their plant. The meeting is usually held the third Tuesday of the month, typically falling around the lunch hour or after work, depending on the plant’s schedule and traffic conditions. Contact our Program Coordinators, Lauren Romano at email@example.com, or Stephanie Strada at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or suggestions about events.
If you are not already receiving email about our events, our chapter chairman at email@example.com would love to hear from you so we can add you to our list and serve you better.
